Dr. Gwendolyn Pennywell

Gwendolyn Pennywell is an Associate Professor of Finance in the Economics and Finance Department at the Mitchell College of Business, University of South Alabama. A first-generation college student, she holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Prairie View A&M University and a Ph.D. in Finance from Georgia State University.

Dr. Pennywell's research examines corporate finance issues, including IPO motivations, managerial risk-taking, and corporate transparency, examining their impact on firm performance. Her pedagogical research explores student motivation, perception, and understanding in online and distance learning environments. She has published in various finance-related academic journals, including Managerial Finance and the Review of Accounting & Finance.

Before her academic career, Gwendolyn spent several years as an engineer with General Motors/Delphi Automotive Systems, where she specialized in automotive design, project management, and quality control for tier-one plants across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
