Italian Culture & Language - Baldwin County Campus

If you love Italian art, culture and language, this course is for you!

This highly interactive class led by Giorgi Di Lemis, will guide students through Italian culture and will focus on the influence it had on other cultures.  Class members will be engaged through web links, videos, and lectures and will finish the course with an even deeper appreciation of "all things Italy" than when they began.

U.S. Culture and the War in Vietnam:  Part I 1950-1964
Instructor: Rick Byrd

Fridays: 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM

Part I of this course, Rick Byrd will examine the background and early stages of 1960s culture and the links to U.S. involvement in Vietnam. We will discuss in detail the role of the traditional belief in American “exceptionalism” as it, combined with emerging consumerism, found new fertile ground in the war.

In the Fall term, Part II will delve into the volatile mix of culture, war, and youth.

Oratorio:  It's Not Just the Messiah
Instructor: Dr. Laura Moore

The oratorio, a large-scale dramatic sacred choral work, is a major genre of Classical music.  This class will present the history and development of the oratorio with lots of listening examples taken from major works by Bach, Handel, Haydn, Mendelssohn, and others.

Learn the history and development of oratorio, major work and composers of the genre, and exercise critical listening skills through musical excerpts.
