Tutoring

Tutoring Information:
For Spring 2021, advanced juniors and seniors of French, Latin, and Spanish offer tutoring services to all students registered in a foreign language course at South Alabama. There is no charge for tutoring as the costs is covered by student fees. The Foreign Languages tutors hold regularly scheduled office hours to provide extra help and practice. Below you will find information about our tutors and their hours for the current semester. Take advantage of this free service early on, especially if you are having difficulty with some aspect of the language.
Please note that time is reasonably limited with each student, and if there are several students from the same level, expect to be tutored simultaneously.
Students often request proofreading of compositions, and this is an appropriate request. However, the student must present an already written draft of the composition. It is not appropriate for the tutor to phrase the composition for the student. When proofreading, the tutor will not red-line nor correct the individual mistakes that the student has made, but will demonstrate to the student the general areas that need work and where he/she needs to pay more attention to grammar and vocabulary.
Most of the workbooks have answer keys available for students to check their own work, so it is not necessary for tutors to check many of the workbook exercises. However, specific questions about the exercises and/or assistance in understanding assignments are appropriate requests of tutors. Tutors are not familiar with the technological tools utilized in your courses. Please see your instructor or the publisher for any questions you have about technical aspects of a course or textbook.
Tutoring Locations:
Until further notice, the LRC will not be offering in-person tutoring sessions in order to ensure the safety of our tutors and their fellow students. Below you will find information about virtual tutoring hours, links to Zoom meeting rooms, and information about what our tutors can do for you. We understand that everyone has different circumstances and we can only offer a certain amount of hours and must work around the schedules of our tutors. All of the tutors have some floating hours to meet with students outside of their scheduled tutoring hours. Please, follow the directions below if you need to meet outside the posted tutoring times.
Remote Tutoring Directions and Information:
LRC tutors have both set and floating hours available for remote tutoring. The hours for each tutor are posted below. Each tutor has set meeting hours where you can drop in for help. To access a tutoring session, please go to the tutor information below and click "here" to be routed to the Zoom meeting room for that specific tutor.
We have done the best we can with the resources available to provide as many different time options possible. If one of the set times does not work with your schedule, you can complete the tutoring appointment request to see about meeting outside of the posted hours.
If you are note sure which tutor you need to see, please complete our General Tutoring Request form. View the tutoring information below before sending a general request as the information may answer you question!
If you need to have a tutor look over an assignment, you can attend one of the set hours or complete the tutor appointment request form. Please be sure to denote somewhere that you need the tutor to look over an assignment.
All tutor appointment request forms go to a central LRC email account and will be processed as soon as possible. Please allow 12 hours during the week and 72 hours over the weekend for a response from our team.
Should you have any questions or issues, please email us at lrc@southalabama.edu and we will respond as soon as possible.
Please note: LRC tutors are students just like you and have to work around their own class schedules. We apologize if the posted hours do not work for all schedules. We can also not guarantee that a tutor can meet with you outside of these hours at any particular time. We appreciate your understanding.
