3MT for the Graduate School
The Graduate School will host the 3MT (Three Minute Thesis Competition)
When: Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at 6:00 PM
Where: Student Center Ballroom
Why: Skills development for research candidates and adding to the research culture
of our university.
Who is eligible: Research-based Master’s and Doctoral students who have successfully
completed their prospectus by the time of the competition.
Event: Each student competitor will have 3 minutes and one static PowerPoint slide only to present their research.
Prizes:
1st place $2,000.00
2nd place $1,500.00
3rd place $1,000.00
People’s Choice $1,000.00
Our first-place winner will also be awarded travel funds to attend the regional CSGS (Council of Southern Graduate Schools) annual meeting on March 19-21, 2025 and compete in the regional 3MT contest.

The 3MT® Competition originated at the University of Queensland in Australia. It is a research communication exercise competition that challenges graduate students to present a compelling oration on their thesis topic and its significance in only three minutes and using only one static slide.
