Professional Development Workshop Schedule

The ILC offers a variety of workshops and seminars that address teaching strategies and instructional technologies. Writing Effective Letters of Recommendation | Wednesday, October 11 | 2:00pm

Letters of recommendation are an important part of a faculty member’s career, and our students’ future careers. Join our campus experts as they share tips on how to write an effective letter of recommendation for any application, such as scholarships or graduate school, in any discipline.

Navigate South: Getting Set Up | Wednesday, October 18 | 1:00pm

The Getting Set Up training is intended for new users, users who have not been through Navigate training, or for users who want a refresher on the intended functionality of Navigate and how it can help support their work with students.

Radical Course Design: Ungrading & Student Agency | Tuesday, October 24 | 1:30pm

Facilitated by Dr. Rebecca Williams
Ungrading requires a radical redesign of traditional lecture/discussion courses to be truly effective. This workshop walks participants how one professor gave regular feedback to allow students to see themselves as participants in their education, providing them agency in what they learned and how they learned it. A combination of reflection essay, feedback, and in-class project work leads to a more meaningful educational experience for both student and instructor.

Innovation Expo: A Gallery Walk of Tech Tools for Learning | Wednesday, October 25 | 12:15pm

This expo will introduce faculty to six different educational technology tools: Akindi, Flip, Mentimeter, Padlet, Pear Deck, and Perusall. We will introduce the uses of the six tools, provide suggestions for educational use, and provide resources for additional information. Faculty will have an opportunity to see the tools in use and ask questions. Come check out these resources that can help increase student engagement.

Navigate South: Next Level | Thursday, October 26 | 11:00am

The Next Level training digs deeper into the tools that Navigate offers, like analytics, automations, and data insights to identify where students need support. This training is ideal for department administrators and professional advisors. The floor will be open for attendees to bring questions that they have about student success, as well as ways that they can leverage the software to streamline processes to free up their people to spend their time on the myriad of other responsibilities that they need to take care of.
