Our Mission
Mother with newborn baby

The University of South Alabama Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology places significant emphasis on excellence in the area of clinical teaching.

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is actively involved with teaching and research activities and provides general obstetrical and gynecological clinical care to a large number of patients from the region. Subspecialty services in maternal-fetal medicine, urogynecology and gynecologic oncology are provided by faculty with special qualifications and experience in these areas. High-risk obstetrical patients from throughout south Alabama are cared for and an expanding outreach program exists. Deliveries and other services are available at USA Children's & Women's Hospital.

The annual number of births at USA Children's & Women's Hospital is nearly 3,000. The hospital has also been designated as a tumor treatment center by the State of Alabama.

Substantial numbers of oncology patients receive care here, in close cooperation with medical and radiation oncology personnel.

Faculty have been assembled with a strong commitment to residency training. Curriculum includes lectures, teaching rounds, participation in research, and experiences in interacting with patients and their families in a professional, caring manner.

There are additional opportunities for residents to work with physicians who are also active in clinical or basic science research. By combining hospital teaching facilities with a private practice environment, USA offers the best of both worlds to the resident-physician in training and to patients.
